Author: Jenny Rating: PG Response to this Challenge: Spock and Saavik meet after the events of STVI. Saavik knows the events that happened on the bridge, and knows that essentially what Spock did to Valeris was mind rape. How does she confront him on this? Does he defend himself? Comments: I have never seen all of this movie. Please forgive any lapses in canon and the lack of detail. Saavik strode quickly across the grounds of Star Fleet headquarters. The cool spring wind ruffled her hair and the bright early morning sunshine glinted off the insignia that graced her left shoulder. She was reporting for her new assignment today and she was eager to start. A group of commuters disembarked from a shuttle and she merged with their stream of traffic, moving forward toward the office buildings. She was shuffled abruptly and halted to regain her equilibrium. She looked up at the offending party to apologize for her part in their collision. Her words caught in her throat and she stared, dumbly. Before her, stood her long time, yet estranged mentor, Spock of Vulcan. He appeared unperturbed by their collision, yet he remained silent as well. Finally she regained her senses enough to speak, "Spock." "Saavik, I trust you are well?" His deep baritone voice washed over her. "I am. I know from correspondence with your mother that you are well, too." She glanced around, as if suddenly realizing that they were still in the middle of the traffic way. As if their thoughts were one, Spock looked around as well and gestured to a nearby bench. "Will you sit and speak with me for a moment, Saavik?" "I have ten point four six minutes before I must report for my new assignment." She nodded her agreement and moved to sit on the bench beneath the green leafed tree. Her attention was seemingly riveted to the comm padd she carried with her. "You have proved yourself an excellent officer, Saavik. I have heard of your progress from my mother as well as from others in the fleet." Spock sat, slightly facing his companion. "I confess that I have questioned her about you a number of times." "I would have answered any questions you had, Spock. The Lady Amanda knows how to contact me at all times." Saavik paused and at last raised her eyes to met his again since their first glance. "I wondered why you did not." "I was unsure that my questions and my presence would be welcomed." Spock held her gaze. "We have not met since the Genesis incident." "Genesis was not just an incident. I have no regrets." Saavik spoke quickly and strongly, her eyes blazing with determination that she not be misunderstood. Spock nodded his understanding, held her gaze for long moments without speaking. Finally, he addressed her current posting. "The debacle with Admiral Cartwright left Star Fleet with much work to do. Your intelligence and skills will be much appreciated in the reorganization." "I heard of your own part in revealing the truth of Cartwright's loyalties." Saavik spoke softly, unsure of how willingly Spock would discuss this. Spock's face grew tight and his eyes flattened with control. "I did what I felt was necessary." Saavik nodded her understanding and debated going further. She knew that Spock would have already reconciled his actions within himself and she hesitated to force the issue. However she had something to share and felt it important that he knew her thoughts. "I knew Lieutenant Valeris well. She and I were classmates at the Academy." She paused, organizing her thoughts to impart her message most efficiently. Mistaking her pause for the completion of her thoughts, Spock interrupted, "Lt. Valeris's record was exemplary. It was difficult to believe that she was capable of her actions." Shaking her head, Saavik continued, "No, I had no trouble believing it. She was ruthless in her pursuit of top ranking and often... misused... others in the class to gain her ranking." "Regardless, my action to obtain her... confession... was extreme." Spock's gaze flickered over her face rapidly as if seeking her reaction. She met his gaze full on. "Your duty to your commanding officer was clear. Your duty to the Fleet and the Federation as well. The good of the many..." "Outweighs the good of the few or the one." Spock inclined his head as he finished her train of thought for her. "I am gratified that you do remember our lessons." Sitting in the cool San Francisco springtime, Saavik held his eyes and replied, "I remember **all** of our time together."
