“…Better hearts’ breaking than worlds’.” – S’task’s farewell to Vulcan
“…day comes up new though empty-hearted: O the long silence, my son!” – Surak’s response
With her touch she invokes a memory
“You have always done what you think is best. I do not always agree”
My words are used against me
I protest
I am silenced
Another memory comes unbidden
“I do what I must.”
She remembers with me a time when she was not there
“I do not always agree,” she echoes.
I accept her thoughts
“I have come to understand, that I do not wish to be the wife of a Martyr.”
“I do not wish to be one.”
“It is the path you have chosen.”
“Perhaps it will not end that way.”
I must believe this for us both
Ancient debate never solved except by parting
Parted from me, yet never parted
Empty-hearted I prepare her
For another long silence
That is our own
